Our scope at Kerry Airport, was taxiway resurfacing works associated with the vertical re-alignment in accordance with IAA criteria on maximum permitted gradient.
As the existing taxiway joins the airport apron to the main runway, traversing runway Bravo the vertical alignment was a combination of separate gradients unrelated to the overall taxiway gradient.
To facilitate the works and avoid disruption significant planning and liaison were required from the outset to ensure authorized site access via security clearance for all material, plant and operatives working airside and coordinated timing of works to ensure the airport flight schedule was maintained. To facilitate phasing of the works and allow plane taxiing past the works, widening adjacent to the works was required. Substantial and widespread locating, protecting and movement of life critical safety wiring was required at each stage. Careful management of the runway and apron line marking and indicator lights was necessary throughout. Complete new heavy-duty drainage channel was installed to new gradient and extensive planing was undertaken at surfacing tie-in points.
