Our recent works at MGH Theatre focused on extensive refurbishment of the main theatre and ancillary preparation and anaesthetic rooms, along with IAP and gowning rooms.

As MGH is a live facility the protection of staff and patients from the risks of aspergillosis and nuisance generated by excessive noise and vibration were key H&S considerations ahead of our works. To minimise disruption within the hospital construction access was established via a second storey window and co-ordinated successfully for all elements.

The works primarily required us to upgrade the pressure profile of clinical areas via modifications to the room envelopes by replacing the door sets entirely, reconfiguring the air handling layout, and installing a new pressure stabilising and balancing system.

Electrically a complete rewiring of the theatre and adjoining rooms was included including new lighting, socketry, DADO & IPS were completed.

Structurally, a sizeable demolition element was included including the removal and replacement of plasterboard ceilings and the demolition and creation of PSD opes through masonry dividing walls. Our brief included facilitating and liaising with manufacturers and installers of items such as powered automated doors, scrub sinks, and in-house mechanical maintenance personnel to pull all elements together and deliver a successful project.

The works which were carried out on a condensed programme of 2-weeks were successfully handed back to the client snag free, tested and operational with satisfactory particulate analysis within the agreed programme.
